In honor of Women’s Month, we are spotlighting one of our very own patients and female entrepreneurs. We asked her about her career, what it’s like to be in her industry, her experience as a woman business owner, and advice for young women aspiring towards their own dreams and goals of entrepreneurship.
Introduce yourself. Tell us a little about YOU.
Hello, my name is Tracey Voyer. I’m from Leominster and currently live in Fitchburg. I love the warm months and will eventually move to the south! I’m a mom to my 20-year-old daughter and married to my husband for 8 years. I’m an esthetician and wellness coach.
What made you choose this career path?
I’ve been in this industry for 20+ years and absolutely love what I do. Before becoming an esthetician, I was in retail management and was the store manager for TJ Maxx. Although it was fun it wasn’t my passion. When I became pregnant, I decided it was time for a career change and went to esthetics school. I never looked back! I was hooked! I love helping people look and feel their best. Every client leaves feeling beautiful and that makes my heart happy.
What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why?
I’ve been fortunate to have so many mentors that have helped me along the way. It’s been great learning and growing. Many things have changed in this industry and working beside some of the best has been so beneficial.
For women entrepreneurs, what specific advice would you have for young women who would like to become a small business owner?
Follow your dreams! It’s scary, and it’s not always easy but it’s worth it. If you have passion, you will be successful. No dream is too big or out of reach. Having a strong work ethic, staying focused, and building your dream are so different than working for someone else. Knowing this is yours gives you such a strong sense of pride. Do your research and find leaders in your industry and reach out to them for advice. We are always willing to help!
Green Business philosophy is on the rise right now. How have you incorporated green business practices and products into your business?
I only use holistic and organic lines for my skincare, body care, and makeup. Their products come from sustainable companies with clearly defined humane, ethical, and environmental policies ensuring the care and beauty of the planet and its inhabitants. They feature several high-performance, natural, organic, and eco-friendly brands, making it easy to go green and stay glam. These products are not only good for your skin, but they also reduce our carbon footprint.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to start a similar business?
Being in this industry is incredibly rewarding. We have such an impact on so many. We aren’t just treating their skin concerns. The bond you make with your clients is so great they become friends. And oftentimes it feels like a therapy session! It’s a very rewarding career.
Owning a business is a lot of work! How do you achieve a balance between your personal and professional life? What do you do for fun/relaxation?
It’s hard sometimes. I learned not to get stressed if someone messages or calls during non-business hours. It took a long time to set those boundaries, but you must. I try and be in the moment with my family and friends and put my phone away! I love to travel to any place warm. We try and go to Florida at least twice a year and it’s incredibly helpful for my mental health.
Do you have any new projects coming up (or have you just completed a big project ~ reached a milestone, etc.)? If so, please tell us about it.
Yes! I’ve completed my wellness coaching training and am very excited to incorporate that into my business. I’ve also added a few new treatments which my clients are loving. I also have something HUGE in the works, but I can’t share details yet! Stay tuned!
