Every year we think about the ways we’re going to improve our lives in the new year and those improvements could mean a job change, weight loss, a new workout program, or even focusing on your mental health. Today we’re going to address the top 3 resolutions that people choose and often fail to achieve:
- Diet
- Exercise more
- Lose weight
Why do people fail at these three top-selected goals?
- Lack of commitment
- Lack of accountability
- Loss of motivation
- Loss of willpower
The truth is, good intentions do not always mean good results. Just because you want to lose weight, eat healthier, or exercise more, doesn’t mean that you inherently know the best way to accomplish this. Flawed methods are the number one cause of failure!
What can you do to beat the odds? Here are two simple places to start:
- Pick methods that are proven to work. Find someone who has tried it, has demonstrated success, and most importantly, has continued success.
- You must be able to do it long-term. Very few people can stick with repeating difficult tasks repeatedly
Other helpful suggestions for long-term maintainable results:
- Share your resolution with a friend. Have someone in your corner that you can also encourage.
- Create or find a program with a step-by-step guide. You may know how to get started, but it’s crucial to have a detailed plan that sees you through to the end
- Set your resolutions in advance. Pick a start date and commit to it
- Sign on for a coach. They’re worth it. This is the person that will help you when things get tough
